HBO Girls Review

Sooooooo…..

I know that everyone and their mother is talking about HBO’s new show, Girls. I also know that the reviews are mixed. Some people love it, most people hate it.

I am one who hates it. Big thumbs down. Will never watch it again. Does not interest me and I cannot understand or fathom how anyone can actually enjoy it.

I was offered the opportunity to preview it and because I hated it so much, decided to keep the negativity off my bloggity blog.

However, I’ve been reading so many reviews and unnecessary comments, that I decided to put my two cents in. Seeing as how us girls are supposed to feel that this is an accurate portrayal into what being a young twenty something is….

• Early to mid-twenties females that apparently have just finished college and have parents that are able to support them while they are living the dream in Manhattan. —> Ummm, yeah…..Let’s define this as Upper Middle Class. Which the majority of us are NOT. Affording rent in Manhattan is a DREAM. Affording rent in Brooklyn is becoming a dream….Sad, but true.
• Crude jokes (which are ok…if they are funny), un-sexy and really akward sex, disgusting douchebag guys, whining girls, (for lack of a better word) pussywhipped guys, and hoe-ish activity.—> Yeah, no. This is not how my life was…or ever would be. If this is how most young women’s lives are, then I fear for the future. Seriously. 
• There is not much diversity, be it culture, race, ethnicity or even social class. —>There are a LOT of people complaining about this particular aspect. I’m not sure where I stand, simply because the show is portraying a certain kind of girl. I mean, let’s be honest…Birds of a feather and all that jazz.
• Is this Sex and the City before everyone got their lives together? The main character, though not a skinny blonde (and I say BRAVA to that!) is aspiring to be a writer. You have another girl who’s a sex fiend, and another one who has her head on, seemingly. And finally, our little virgin. —>Hello Carrie, Samantha, and Miranda….There you are, Charlotte! Seriously people?!

Now let me make myself clear. I love HBO. I am an HBO freak. The series on this network are like my own personal brand of cocaine.

However, I will not be watching this show. It doesn’t work out for me. It may work out for a few people who find it funny, daring and “real”. I don’t find it any of these. Rather than bashing the show or constantly complaining about it (Like you people who look at the Kardashians. You know who you are!), I will just find something else to watch while it’s on.

Give me Game of Thrones and True Blood ANY DAY! My prediction? These Girls are only going to last a season unless they start doing some major reconstructive surgery.
